    For the 13th year in a row, giant Chicagoland retailer Abt Electronics tops Consumer Reports’ survey-based ratings of major-appliance retailers. It earns the highest overall satisfaction score in our new ratings—head and shoulders above the rest.

    And when it comes to bargaining for a deal, CR’s members found they had the most success at independent appliance retailers and websites—individual stores or small chains that typically serve a city or region. For overall satisfaction, independents land at the near-to-top zone in our ratings. These smaller merchants are also standouts for delivery and installation, our survey finds.
